The most important factor of your uniform program is getting control of the numbers. This means you need to streamline the process of uniforming your security officers by utilizing the controls offered through technological solutions. Presently, you are expected to keep track of the uniform orders for the security officers in your company. After your company has determined the amount of money (allowance) or the amount of items (quantity allocations) each security officer is to be given, it becomes your job to make sure they stay within the appropriate limits, receive the correct uniform and uniform gear and handle returns, repairs and reissues.

Are You Sure You Have Chosen The Best Uniform Program?
Are You Getting the Best Deal?
How Can You Tell?

If you or your uniform supplier is still handling this task manually, you are still managing in the 19th Century. Some companies choose a basic yearly dollar allowance for their employees. Other companies choose to provide their employees with a certain number of items each year. In either case, the important issues are to accurately track and maintain your employees' usage, make sure they are wearing the correct uniforms and uniform gear, and handle their quantity allotment or dollar allowance guidelines.

Federal Bureau of Prisons, McCormick and Company, and Procter and Gamble all give each of their employees a dollar allowance to spend annually. On the other hand, Federal Bureau Of Alcohol , Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, and Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission have chosen the quantity allotment option where their employees can order up to a specified number of each item within their customized catalogue annually. Most importantly, these companies have a Web-based, integrated approach that manages all aspects of their uniform program from choosing the employees' correct items based on job description or project and dollar allowance/quantity allocation to ordering, receiving and tracking each of the items.

My Opinion? You Would Be Foolish To Pay A Uniform Company
While You Do All The Work

You need your uniform supplier to first do a needs analysis to determine your top issues, validate your job descriptions and the required uniform items, and then make the necessary recommendations for your company. All of your information needs to be entered and managed into a system using the proper software to guarantee your employees will receive the right uniform for the right job in the right quantity. Then when the uniform and uniform gear orders are placed, they will be managed in real time allowing complete access to all information to administrators, project managers and employees (if appropriate). This type of control and convenience will maximize the efficiency of your uniform distribution process saving your company time and money, while enhancing your professional image. Administrators will no longer be bothered with checking employees orders, monitoring their history, or preparing thousands of spreadsheets to ensure dollar allowance or quantity allocation numbers are being maintained.
